Stephen announced today in chapel that the University was removing
the Starbucks product from our Snack Shop. This is because of a
homosexual statement that they placed on some kind of collector’s
cup. We contacted someone high in the chain of command and notified
them that we were offended by the quote, and we would have to boycott
if nothing was done. Apparently the company has neglected to call the
University back despite several phone messages left with them and
even an email written to them by a regional representative. So the
University is removing their account with them.
Now I’m not a big fan of coffee in general thus don’t frequent
Starbucks, but I think the University made a good move because 1) a
lot of people look at what the University does and what their stands
are, and 2) it was just plain RUDE that the representative or whoever
it was we were talking to wouldn’t call us back. Okay, that’s just
plain bad business. I’m in several business classes, and they all say
that’s a sure-fire way to lose a customer. That’s no way to treat
anybody, even a big-name fundamental Christian college. I doubt I’ll
be patronizing them at all in the near future.
I guess I have more respect for why the University suggests we
boycott some of these companies. Society is so screwed up these days.
Last year Dr. Bob suggested boycotting Hardees because of a
commercial, but I didn’t really understand until summer vacation when
I actually saw one of the commercials in the same genre. I’ll just
say that it featured Paris Hilton and car. Okay, not much really
fazes me anymore, but I was appalled after seeing this commercial. I
thought I was watching some porn clip! People are so sick and messed
up these days. We are definitely living in the End Times.
I’m so sick of the way the world is today, but alas, we are fallen
creatures, and it’ll only get worse. I’m practically terrified of
going out on my own into the world after I graduate. With all the
dangers to women and the things people are doing to children these
days. . . . I think myself crazy for wanting to eventually bring
children into this world. I’m going to have to carry the huge
responsibility of protecting them from all the evils of society.
Things are so much different now than they were, say, ten years ago.
And despite my efforts, one is likely to fall a statistic. So maybe
I’m just paranoid and pessimistic, but I’m also a pragmatist. . . .
Okay, so I went off on rabbit-trails. It’s been a long day for the
most part. Now I have to go read my Management assignment. Blah.
