Thanks to God

from kcaturan @ kcaturan.delightinhim.org

,
Thanks to God for my Redeemer
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a memory,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,
Thanks for dark and stormy fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!
Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thanks for storms that [...]

A few scenes from Thanksgiving 08

from Barbara H. @ Stray Thoughts

Jim set this up with the tripod and timer. In the first one, the camera missed him. In the second one, I’m blocking Jeremy. We should photoshop them together!

One of the many benefits of blogging I’ve reaped is a renewed interest in homemaking. I’ve wanted to be a stay-at-home-mom all my married life, and I [...]

Meet the composer…

from Dan Forrest @ ForrestWorks

My grad students and I recently went to hear the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus perform John Adams’ new opera, Dr. Atomic. It was a splendid performance in every way, but the best part was, thanks to Mark Buller’s insistence, we ended up seeking out Adams and found him afterward, getting to congratulate him, shake [...]

Review: Changeling

from Will Gray @ explorations

Changeling (2008)Directed by Clint Eastwood***It’s a tricky act to keep drama from veering into melodrama. Especially when you raise the stakes so high, they’re through the roof. I’m sure Clint meant well on this one, but the overall impressions I…

Brief Review: Toys

from Will Gray @ explorations

Toys (1992)Directed by Barry Levinson***Allegories can be fun. Unfortunately, they can also have that “obvious” quality — sometimes, if you get the connection early on, the point becomes overdone rather than more powerful. That’s what happens in this otherwise-very-visually-creative movie…

Review: Slaughterhouse-Five

from Will Gray @ explorations

Slaughterhouse-Five (1969)by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.****I remember reading the awkwardly funny story of a guy who went into the video store (decades ago, when it was a video store) looking for the movie Slaughterhouse-Five. The clerk squinted for a moment, and…
