I made it through the winter. I know tomorrow is just the first day of March, but Spring is certainly coming. The freshness in the air, the crocuses and snow drops poking their heads out of the cold grown are proof that we made it. Winter is leaving, a new season is beginning. Winter in Scotland is dark. The days are short, and sometimes even the time that there is daylight, is still overcast. These two months have been rough working on my dissertation. Radically changing topics and the darkness of winter gave me some blues. So, I took a…

Tea for one
from Katherine @ Sola ChristusI have always wanted a “wee” teapot for one. One of those little pots that fit perfectly on top of a tea cup. Even though they are “tea for one” designs, I have always thought there was something beautiful in the complementarity of the pot and the cup. They fit perfectly together. They work together. And without each other, they wouldn’t be the same. Yesterday, Casey and I went to Dundee for some shopping. We found the Borders, where we sit and experienced a luxury from home–flipping through magazines and sipping our coffee. Wandering through the Paperchase section, of saw…
For all of those patrons who asked me where the Kinkades were
from Katherine @ Sola ChristusI worked for two years in a sacred art museum where there were there were paintings by Tinteretto, Orazio Gentileschi, and Botticelli, just to name a few. It was one of the best jobs I have ever had. But, it never failed to surprise me that patrons would ask the docents where the Thomas Kinkade paintings were. I know this is a late article, but Vanity Fair did a good job at exposing his “art.” Enjoy fellow art lovers.
Six words are all you get
from Katherine @ Sola ChristusPodcasts are a wonderful thing. My flat is about a mile and a half outside of town, so in my three mile daily commute, I listen to podcasts. One of them is the Story of the Day from NPR; they had a special podcast last week for Valentine’s featuring Six-Word Memoirs. These small clips were started by Ernest Hemingway who wrote a six word story: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”So here are two of my Valentine memoirs:Beano Brothers, car talks, lost friends.Crepes and tulips; love is big.
The Many Flavors of Spam
from robert @ NullvariableWe are all familiar with spam as unwanted email. A cursory viewing of the most recent messages to hit my spam folder shows me that spam is alive and well. For example, Google apparently is hiring, and there are “jobs available in your area. Be the boss. Make a fortune. Start your home business Today [...]
Quote of the Day
from paulmatzko @ "One Little Hour"Currently I am researching for a seminar paper on the politicization of Carl McIntire and what his story can tell us about the re-entrance of evangelicals into political discourse during the 1950s and 60s. Very little academic work has been done on Carl McIntire (though now that Princeton is processing his papers I expect more to follow) [...]

Choking anxieties
from Barbara H. @ Stray ThoughtsBusy, busy day today — I won’t be able to participate in the usual Friday memes. I will get around to visit you all hopefully later today or this evening.
In the meantime, I wanted to share something the Lord used to speak to me this morning. While showering and getting ready, my mind was running [...]
